On Our Soapbox Again: The Vancouver Canary Derby
Team Teligence spent today at the second annual Vancouver Canary Derby at Deer Lake Park, watching the Vancouver tech community compete for a great cause and great prizes, including trophies for top fundraisers and fastest racers. The Derby challenges local companies to design and build soapbox carts raced by their company’s CEO, to raise money for The Canary Foundation, supporting early detection of cancer research in BC. This year’s event raised $113,000!
Aside from the impressive display of engineering, speed, and fearlessness (those things have no brakes!), the day also featured lots of cool activities for participants and their families, as Teligence employees enjoyed the kids’ play area complete with bouncy castle (why don’t they make those things for big people?), balloon animals, face painters and a BBQ area.
Because we signed up too late to get our soapbox cart together and instead sponsored the event, the very cool cart in the photo is courtesy of our good friends at 6S Marketing, who we intend to definitively leave in next year’s dust.
